Zoo Atlanta names baby panda!
Jack Black visits the zoo as panda cub is named after his character in “Kung Fu Panda”.
Jack Black visited Zoo Atlanta for its baby panda naming ceremony on Feb. 15, 2011. The panda cub was named Po, after Black’s character in “Kung Fu Panda” and “Kung Fu Panda 2.” While at the zoo, Black met fans, walked a red carpet and showed off his own kung fu moves.
Po was born to Lun Lun at Zoo Atlanta on Nov. 3, 2010 and was the only panda cub born in the United States last year. His public debut at Zoo Atlanta will take place in March or April. Until then, panda fans can watch him on the zoo’s panda cam.

I can’t believe they named him Po… First: one of the twin panda cubs at Zoo Madrid is already named Po. Two: Po isn’t even a Chinese name. This is just publicity for DreamWorks. But I guess the Atlanta Zoo got a lot of money for it and as long as it goes to the pandas, I’m okay with it.
What do you guys think of the name?

The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca, literally meaning "black and white cat-foot") is a bear native to central-western and south western China. Though it belongs to the order Carnivora, the panda's diet is 99% bamboo. Due to farming, deforestation, and other development, the panda has been driven out of the lowland areas where it once lived. The giant panda is a conservation reliant endangered species.
